Thanks to TSW, I was able to sign up for New Balance Real Run for free! I was enticed also by the fact that it's a cross-terrain run which covers 3 different terrains - trail, sand & road. An added challenge that I don't get out of Great Eastern Women Run.

This race was male-dominated and I found myself keeping to the sides most of the time so that I don't get knocked or elbowed by fast runners. Was a plus point having so many guys running by my side because they act as pacers for me.

The route was amazingly scenic too. Sun, sand & sea - what more can you ask for?

Pushing back all negative thoughts towards the end required some effort but yes, it was oh-so-worthwhile conquering those demons.

And so, yes, 10 weeks worth of internship days came and went. An eye-opening one, I must say.

Office politics were aplenty, even though they tried very hard to keep it discrete. Yet, I could feel the underlying tensions amidst the quiet. Within my unit, arrows flew to and fro above heads during meetings. People were quick in correcting what they previously said with this particular phrase, "No, I didn't say it that way. How can you put words into my mouth?" I must say that this is an isolated case as I saw how other units were so bonded and the notion of 'working as one' was extremely evident. Nevertheless, being situated in such a unit was enough for me to understand that whatever work you do, no matter how shitty, the people working with you make a hell lot of difference. No wonder turnover rates are sky-high.

Never mind the perm staff. The rest of the interns gave me a damn good lesson too. Behind all the weeks of talks, smiles and laughter, when I needed their joint help, I was faced with total rejection. Imagine the immense disappointment I felt AT THAT MOMENT. You're being thrown into deep cold icy water and you got to do all you can to remain positive, support yourself, get onto shore alive, in complete numbness. Some felt guilty and tried offering their help thereafter. Yea, thanks but no thanks. Some things done/said are never meant to be taken back.

I relied on my inner strength and positivism and that brought me through the entire ad-hoc project. It was indeed a blessing in disguise as it became a project that I could claim full ownership for. I gained visibility in the office as people could put a name to the work I did and in turn, showered me with lots of credit and praises. I also earned myself a thanks-giving lunch from the Director which is on the way in September. No pain, no gain. How true.

Key take-away from this internship: Attitude is everything. 我要靠自己的勇气面对所有的问题。

Day 1 (21 May 2011)

Jie woke up early and treated us to Mac's breakfast at Raffles City and walked us to Hotel Grand Central where we waited for our coach (: we were all sleepy max!

reached Makohta Melaka at 2pm after a long 5 hours bus ride -.-

checked in immediately and got ready to explore the city

First stop: Dataran Palawan Mega Mall (英雄广场）just a walk away from our hotel. The waffles was awesome! We went back for a second one but that one killed us. Mad full after that.

Fruit juice (:

Stopped by Starbucks to get a cup of Camomile to aid digestion. Baby sis imitating the Starbucks logo -.-

Took a taxi to our dinner place for naan and tandoori chicken

tandoori chicken was good...but the cheese naan was mehhhhh

We took a slow walk to Jonker Street after dinner for some night market sightings

The famous Master Ho of Malacca who holds the Guinness World Record for the shortest time taken to jab his finger into a coconut.

We left for Dataran Palawan again to catch our night movie, Pirates. Love the cinema for its plush seats and roomy leg space (: We actually wanted to sing k from 12am to 3am but were too tired for it.

We ended the night at Mac's for a choc ice cream cone before we crashed.

For all the years that have lived themselves out on her face, mother has never once splurged on food for herself. She counts the pennies and saves them up, only to shower them onto my sisters and I with unconditional extravagance.

If I told you that my mum has been willing to only bring sandwiches to work for 20 over years, will you be astonished? Call her penny-wise, pound-foolish if you may; but she is so undoubtedly my mother whom I hold so dearly to heart.

My greatest wish for this Mother’s Day is to personally present mum with vouchers to a gastronomical meal at Bakerzin so that she wouldn’t feel the pinch of dining out, together with a handwritten copy of this note.

I would also present her with a sweet Coeur Nor cake at the end of our family meal and say with all my love, “HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY MUM!”

An appearance on URBAN that was truly a pleasant surprise for me. I joined its FB contest out of pure fun. Now, I kind of get the impression that sometimes, spontaneity really does wonders!

Gh took the effort to print screen it on the digital version of ST and send it together with an email for my keepsake. And Yonks replied with, "Since nigel spotted it and guohao scanned it, yongc shall upload it." These friends of mine are sweet beyond words. She swing her arms around in acknowledgement. haha. this funny girl gave a squeal when she keyed in her pin wrongly and the wait staff had to help her with the wireless machine they brought right to the table.

We were off to JiDeChi for desserts. We ordered a total of 5 different desserts but were too busy eating to take any pictures. Snowy ice series worth a try!

For those who might be interested in renting the place for events, the cost of rental of the area is a whooping $800! $200 for the place & $600 for food. Food is variable because they do a per pax count. And I realised that her parents aren't around so being a busybody I asked Ber and she said that her folks decided not to attend just in case more friends turn up last minute and incur extra charges.

Liwei kept us entertained the entire night with his love for Taboo. super funny guy.

That's Liwei for you. I need someone like that who can make me laugh all the time. Can't wait to meet his gf in person. He promised to bring her along someday.

Finally caught Harry Potter on screen with hannie (: So glad I still made it before it's taken off the ever-changing movie list. Special thanks for saving me from freezing inside the cinema with your cardigan. Love my friends for always taking good care of me.

It was tuition for both of us in the evening after our movie date.

After tuition, the mum came to me with 2 packages, 1 as a gift from her Taiwan trip another as my Christmas present. I was pleasantly surprised. What a sweet end to a day.

2nd day of 2011 was spent having breakfast with angweekiat at CoffeeClub.

Aiyoh, this person slipped a Christmas card on xmas day under a potted plant outside my doorstep and smsed at 6am telling me that. I read the message only at 10am and it was already gone by the time I went out to check. Conclusion: the morning sweeper swept it away. zzzzzz

I thought the buttermilk waffles with strawberry compote were quite nice. Starting the morning with lots of laughter was great. More meetups ya, angweekiat.

Took a leisure stroll around jp while waiting for the folks. Stepped into Harris and saw kids sitting around reading. Reminds me of childhood when we'll spend lots of time in the library just reading and reading.

Finally done with the Personal Protection Order (PPO) documents that my tutee's mum assigned to me. A divorce is looming near but I do hope she'll be happier after this period. 人活着就是要快乐。

Ended 2010 with a blast!

I had so much fun at Dor's birthday dinner (:

We met early to engage in some pre-dinner deco fun! Bursting lots of balloons here and there and some mad rush to get everything done. But dor still surprised all of us with her early arrival, and i went 'oh shit'.

Day 5:

It was last minute shopping at Platinum before checking out and heading straight for the airport. We only had slightly under 2 hours to comb the 2nd floor. So glad that we managed several good purchases (: Last dash for the crepe, but it disappointed.

This was before eating it. It was cold and soggy.

Folks went off on their own to explore the vicinity and grab some essentials.

Day 4:

Woke up to this morning view outside the window

After breakfast, it was first to Platinum for some good shopping. Folks and us went on our separate ways again after fixing a time to meet for lunch

Walked over to A&W for lunch. Stopped by to have some waffles.

Day 3:

We woke up earlier because we booked a half day guided tour to Grand Palace.

Daily breakfast at hotel. Parents are happy with the breakfast buffet spread given the standard of a budget hotel.

Hit the road on a mini van with the guide and we passed some war memorial monuments

Had lunch at MBK's food court

Food courts in Thailand issue a card before you enter it. It's works on either a credit or debit system. For this food court, you order food using this card and pay upon exit. Marche kind of concept. For others, you deposit any amount into the card and claim the balance upon exit.

We three decided to leave the food court after surveying the place and sneaked in Subway because the food prices in the food court was crazily overpriced! Folks just settled for fried rice there.

Was snacking time after lunch! Had mini waffles and..

..this! Looks like fruits? It's actually jelly outer covering with bean paste inside! A different rendition of ang ku kuay. Pretty nice!

After lunch, it was shopping at MBK's departmental store. It was having EOY sale. We swept tons of Triumph with their crazily low price. Best buy of the entire trip. haha papa went to Mac to sleep while waiting for us to be done.

Day 2:

We decided to head to Chatuchak Weekend Market and spend the entire day there. It has always been a must-go destination in Bangkok and naturally, we were excited about the shopping there.

We continued walking around after lunch and chanced upon this performer. Quirky performer in his (or her?) geisha-ish make up and Vietnamese kind of traditional robe.

Choco banana! We couldn't help but give it a try. Turns out that it's different in a good way. The banana is frozen and coated with a layer of hard choc and peanuts. The banana was really creamy and tasted exactly like ice-cream.

was worth it because it calmed baby sis down. She was getting really irritated with the warm weather.

The cinema was awesomely huge and the seats were roomy. We stood up for the King before the movie started. Was a good movie choice because the screen made the graphics and scenery so so splendid. Even the folks were sold and had nothing but thumbs up for the show. We ended up leaving MBK at 12midnight.

oh my, this semester is DONE! I'm actually quite relieved that it's officially over for good. Been a crazy semester with close assignment deadlines to be met, duties to be fulfilled, jobs to be done. It's a mad rush with bits of happy things to look forward to in between. Nights spent on the sofa are not funny at all. Where's my Harry Potter and Rapunzel? Please still be around

Friends have been extremely kind to me even though we see each other so much less this semester. Our conversation on FB message allows communication across different time zones where we whine and pour our frustrations about almost everything. Sometimes, you just need someone to listen.

Folks in school are wonderful and amazing as well. Rides kindly offered by gh, encouragement and moral support provided by dor, Nigel and his jokes, JJ and his funny antics, yonks's "still alive anot little friend" are sweet everyday gestures that I appreciate a lot.

With that, I'm jetting off to Bangkok tomorrow with the kins for a good free-and-easy holiday! We will prove to parents that holidays need not be always booked with tour groups. Baby sis, we're counting on your itinerary~

By Friday afternoon, I’m usually exhausted. After a long week, I suppose it’s to be expected, but it’s certainly not the best way to welcome the weekend. Instead, I want to start focusing on things that are making me happy as a way to end the week on a positive note. Pretty things ahead!

Not a painless affair. I went "PAIN PAIN PAIN PAIN..." I didn't know my tolerance level for pain was so low.

Yay, finally gotten my new pair of running shoes! Reebok Runtone!

I was browsing through the racks at Royal Sporting House and I love the many pretty designs of sports bra and sports tops that Nike, Adidas and Reebok have! The prices are too steep though. I was telling Jie that I'll collect them like collectables when I've the ability to. Sometimes, it's good not having everything that you wish for because it makes you cherish and appreciate things more. Imagine the motivation booster for working out in such pretty sports outfits.Something to work towards to!

La Nonna was top on the list to visit after knowing that there's an ongoing 50% lunch promotion. Of course, the good reviews for their food were important too. So, I just had to recommend the place for lunch date with the girls & I was pleasantly surprised when Lay told me that she visited it and liked the food they served. Reservation was made and it was Italian cuisine for the day!

Yums! Liked La Nonna's Signature Pizza best! Ravioli was good too with its meat fillings.

This poor girl is so swarmed with projects!

Girls & desserts go hand-in-hand and so we hopped on to Cold Rock just next door for our sweet fix!

Back from the birthday treat and it was a good good night, though we were initially quite disappointed when dim sum wasn't available for ordering. We all agreed that the ala carte's menu at Taste Paradise isn't very user friendly. I gave up flipping back and forth, back and forth AND back and forth again. Luckily hungry baby sis was famished enough to pick for us some dishes.

Canale at Paragon closed by the time we walked over from Ion. So it was PS Cafe to end the night. AND OHMY, Double Chocolate Blackout's a major love. Baby sis couldn't stop tucking in and gave half-hearted answers like "mmm", "ya", -nods head, eyes fixated on cake- haha.

OVERRRRR!!!! been looking forward to the end of today since weeks ago and yay, recess week beckons! HELLLOOO RECESS!

i can't wait can't wait can't wait to go out tomorrow with the sisters for their birthday treat at Taste Paradise, Ion. The past month has just been school-tuition-home-exercise and this cycle just continues on and on. Really need a break with good food and good company. Ahhhh... i think about the dim sum we'll be having and that just makes me smile. food food food, I'm such a foodie.

Yay, Week 5 is almost over! Lucky to have friends who help keep my sanity in check.

Crazy crazy week ahead and this is a reminder to brace myself for the impending tide coming my way. The little one is depending on me so the motivating force has to come in the most positive and powerful form ever. comeoncomeoncomeon.... 'remember to breathe breathe breathe and direct the oxygen to the body part that you want to have an effect on' my yoga instructor chants repeatedly.
